Borders and East Lothian

Scottish Borders are rich in history, from Roman times 2000 years ago, Travelling from Edinburgh south to the area known as “Scott Country”, Sir Walter Scott spent many of his years in this area, there are many places to visit – 15th century Rosslyn Chapel, Traquair House, the Borders Abbeys of Melrose, Kelso, Jedburgh, Dryburgh. Sir Walter Scott’s home Abbotsford House, Floors Castle, Smailholm Tower, Thirlestane Castle. Walk to the Wallace Monument wonderful view over the River Tweed. We could visit Lochcarron Weavers to see how tartan is made in the town of Selkirk. Many of the famous Border names: Scott, Hume, Haliburton, Aitken, Rutherford, Armstrong, Riddle.

It is possible to travel over the border into England to visit Hadrian’s wall, or drive to Alnwick Castle, recently Harry Potter movies have been filmed here, Close by to Alnwick is Holy Island, tide permitting a visit is possible to explore this interesting island, associated with St Cuthbert.

East Lothian

There are many charming villages and towns in this area, there are also many golf courses in East Lothian : Gullane, North Berwick, Kilspindie, Muirfield, Craigielaw, to name a few. We can drive east from Edinburgh along the coast passing through the towns and villages of Musselburgh, Port Seton, Aberlady, Longniddry, Gullane, Dirleton, North Berwick, Dunbar. Many different routes to return to the city e.g. via Tyninghame, Haddington, Gifford, Pencaitland.

These areas can be full day tours from Edinburgh selecting some of these attractions. Extended tours of the areas out of Edinburgh and Glasgow can be arranged.
