The South West
Driving south from Glasgow to visit Burns Country – in Alloway visit the birthplace of Robert Burns Scotland’s National Poet, Robert Burns was born in 1759 in the village close to the town of Ayr, the visitor centre and gardens & the Auld Kirk can be explored,
A further drive along the coast to Culzean Castle and Country Park. the Castle sits proudly on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Clyde & the Isle of Arran , Robert Adam the architect designed the building in the 18thc, it’s a very fine example of Adam’s design.
Extended tours can be arranged to spend more time in Dumfries and Galloway, beautiful unspoilt coastline and sandy beaches, small fishing villages, natural landscape.
Dumfries House has been restored with the support of Prince Charles & his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, a another magnificent 18thc Robert Adam designed house with a remarkable collection of Chippendale furniture. The garden is a work in progress.
Drumlanrig Castle the ancestral home of the Dukes of Buccleuch can also be visited while exploring this area, the fishing village Of Kircudbright is renowned for artists.
